Schumer for Trump's Trillion Dollar Infrastructure Plan

Senator Chuck Schumer hasn't changed his mind about major stimulus spending just because the President is now a Republican.
Incoming Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer says he likes the sound of President-elect Donald Trump’s proposal of a major infrastructure plan, as long as it meets certain Democratic criteria.
“We think it should be large. He’s mentioned a trillion dollars. I told him that sounded good to me,” Schumer told ABC News' Jon Karl and Rick Klein during their podcast “Powerhouse Politics.”
But Democrats will insist that the package not be, for example, all tax breaks to investors.
“We’re not going to oppose something simply because it has the name Trump on it, but we will certainly not sacrifice our principles just to get something done,” he said.
Schumer also said Democrats can find common ground with the incoming president on trade, saying he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s proposed solutions but does agree with his “diagnosis.”
“I’m more close to that than I am to Barack Obama or George Bush’s [positions], and so are a lot of Democrats,” Schumer said. [emphasis added]
Looks like this major addition to the national debt will be bipartisan.

Interesting, as I was unaware that they had any.

Apparently there are minuscule obstacles to spending trillions of dollars on federal projects. One of those is that it not all go to "tax breaks to investors". But notice the "all". It is always so enticing to spend lots of federal money that the bar even allows for some or even significant tax breaks to investors. Heh. We shall see if Republicans have no obstacles other than it be proposed by a Republican president.

One of the problems that I have with Republicans is that once elected to office, they often behave like Democrats.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Max!

Yes, many (most?) Republicans like to be popular spending other people's money just like Democrats. And they hope that throwing money at a problem will solve it. Lots of people are calling for another party. But, even though I left the Republican party, I think the same thing would happen with a new party. It's not the party. It's human nature to want to defy the laws of economics and good sense and live an easy, undisciplined life where prosperity takes neither work nor diligence.

Hope your Christmas was great as well, TD - and hoping for better in 2017!

As Reagan once observed: "I didn't leave the Democrat party; it left me." I think the same applies to many Republicans today.

Ant vs. Grasshopper.

It sure applies to me, Max. Though I officialized it in voter registration.

Happy New Year to you and your family! Thank you for a year of good sense and humor. You brighten my day more often than you know. Blessings on you!

Back at you, TD - you have some great thoughts over here. I appreciate them greatly. Best wishes to you and yours!

Glad I split more alder yesterday, as it's starting to snow up here. They said that wouldn't happen until after midnight.

But I totally believe them on man-made Global Warming....

Hope you're keeping warm, Max. I just bought a generator and got the wheel kit on tonight. Tomorrow I'll fire it up. We also have a fireplace, but want the power source.

I've thought about getting a generator as well, but I charge all of the systems up regularly, so really, all we'd need might be refrigeration - and when it's this cold....

I use crank LED lanterns for light, and have 35 pounds of propane on hand for cooking.

We have solar/battery and crank/battery lanterns which are nice. But nothing for cooking. So the generator is for all the do-dads, cooking, portable heat as well as helping out with refrigeration when the power is out for more than 8 hours. We used to weather power outages just fine, but the flexibility and endurance are waning with age. So, I got a good deal on a 3800 watt hybrid generator and decided to go for it.
