Pew Research Center: Difference in Conservatives and Liberals Bashing and Praising News Media

Pew Research Center has done some interesting polling on what liberals and conservatives like and dislike about the media.

The right sees the media's best point as reporting the news; the left as "providing a service to the public" ("such as informing people or acting as a watchdog").

The left is fairly evenly divided on what's wrong with the news media: biased, poor news choices or lying. The right is pretty sure the main problem is the news media is biased. I'm guessing biased is a step more moral/competent than lying or misleading.

I'm inclined to go with biased as well, TD. Anyone who thinks they "provide service to the public" hasn't been paying attention. The only media that libs think is biased is Fox.

The interesting thing about providing a service is that is the basis for freedom of the press in the 1st Amendment. Butmost of the news media are at best biased watchdogs. Calling foul mostly on people they disagree with rather than for the public interest. Which wouldn't be a problem except that the liberals have taken over most of the professional press. So, there is not the natural check and balance of different viewpoints going at it.

When over 85% of people employed in media self-identify as Democrat, balance is not possible.

And most of the other 15% are either pretending to be non-Dems or too frightened for their career to act like Republicans or conservatives.
