Ted Cruz Shows His Cool

There was a lot in tonight's debate. Of interest was Ted Cruz showing real self-control. The kind of self-control that makes a person able to deal honestly with opponents and weaken Washington gridlock.

First there was Marco Rubio's taunt that Cruz doesn't speak Spanish. Cruz answered by asking in Spanish if Rubio wanted to continue the argument in Spanish. Cruz didn't call Rubio out as a twerp who obviously knows nothing about Cruz least of all whether Cruz speaks Spanish or not. Then Rubio had the audacity to follow up by saying Cruz had shown a "disturbing pattern" of telling lies after Rubio himself had just been caught in a lie about Cruz.

Then there was Donald Trump's calling Cruz a liar and "nasty". Cruz didn't reply in kind. Instead he showed how Trump was lying about not supporting tax payer funding for Planned Parenthood. Trump in the exchange showed himself to be "nasty" and a liar without Cruz making the accusations.

Cruz has admitted that his Spanish isn't very good.

Sounded good to me. I speak Portuguese (which is very close to Spanish). And, of course, the point is that Rubio said he doesn't speak Spanish which Cruz obviously does.

Thanks for your comment. And I like Mansfield Park too, though Emma is my favorite.

Never ask a witness a question to which you don't know his answer.

Ted's father - who got out of Cuba - still speaks with a very thick accent. You can bet that when Ted was growing up, they did a lot of Spanish speaking.

Trump was flummoxed; He'd expected Ted to respond to Marco in Canadian.

OG and Max, you both made me laugh.

OG, yes, Rubio was a lawyer, but kind of slow-witted one to make such a basic mistake. Maybe trying to prove he isn't a robot by letting anything that enters his head escape in speech unfiltered by rational thought.

Then Trump, great line Max. SNL needs you. Trump probably wishes Cruz had spoken in "Canadian" when telling Trump adults have learned not to interrupt others. Heh.

Ha! OG beat me to that Rubio remark, as I was going to say much the same. So I went for Trump to kind of join things up. Somebody has to think of these things, after all ;-)

Glad you got a laugh out of it all.

You have a talent for the mild, but complete, comedic skewer. As I said, SNL needs that kind of comedy and usually lacks it. Thanks for posting it here!
